“What I say is, a town isn’t a town without a bookstore. It may call itself a town, but unless it’s got a bookstore, it knows it’s not fooling a soul.” – Neil Gaiman, American Gods
Aaron’s Books, a member of the American Booksellers Association, is the region’s independent bookstore, family owned and operated since 2005. While the national bookstore chains struggle in today’s economic climate, Lancaster County’s own independent Aaron’s Books continues to thrive in historic downtown Lititz and is even expanding during its fifth year.
Aaron's Books is dedicated to a triple bottom line- planet, people, then profit. Throughout the year, Aaron’s books hosts dozens of community events and book groups, as well many local and national authors. Aaron's Books also works closely with local non-profits and schools in a variety of ways (see our community outreach page for more information on this aspect of our store).
Founded as a small, family-owned, used bookstore in 2005, Aaron’s Books has become a fixture in the Lititz community and a valued source for both new and quality used books. The store was named for Aaron, the youngest member of the family. He was 2½ years old when the store opened and turned seven this fall. Aaron is now in first grade at a local Montessori school, and is quickly becoming a math and science whiz (along with his love of reading). Sam is a former teacher and non-profit administrator. Her favorite reads are cozy mysteries, romantic comedies, and women's fiction. She spends her "free" time knitting, crafting, and working with the Susquehanna Sustainable Business Network. Todd is a former government relations specialist for non-profits, and is also currently working with The Arc of Pennsylvania. His favorite reads are Science Fiction/Fantasy, mysteries featuring interesting detectives, and history.
Vicky Burkholder joined the staff in 2009. Vicky is a published author in the genre of romance and has over 25 years experience working in libraries. Vicky's favorite books are romances and fantasy. She's currently working on several writing projects in a variety of genres.
Aaron's grandparents can also be found working the store occasionally.
We are proud members of the Susquehanna Sustainable Business Network, which publishes an annual directory of "green" businesses. You can view the 2010 directory HERE
